A new kaempferol diglycoside from Datura suaveolens Humb. & Bonpl. ex. Willd.
(2006) A. Sajeli Begum; Mahendra Sahai; Yoshinori Fujimoto; K. Asai; Kathrin Schneider; Graeme Nicholson; Roderich Suessmuth
A new flavonol glycoside, kaempferol 3-O-α-L-arabinopyranosyl-7- O-β-D-glucopyranoside (1), has been isolated from methanol extract of leaves of Datura suaveolens (Solanaceae), along with six other known compounds, which include kaempferol 3-O-α-L-arabinopyranoside (2), 3-phenyl lactic acid, 3-(3-indolyl) lactic acid, and its methyl ester, physalindicanol A and physalindicanol B. The structural elucidation of 1 and characterization of the known compounds are based on detailed spectral analysis (ESI-FTICR-MS and 2D-NMR). This is the first report of isolation of these compounds from this plant.

Chemical constituents of Polyalthia suberosa Thw.
(Indian Chemical Society, 2004) A. Sajeli Begum; A.P. Singh; M. Singh; M. Sahai
Chemical studies of stem bark of Polyalthia suberosa (Annonaceae), led to the isolation of two compounds which were characterized as 4-(4-methoxyphenyl)-butane-2-ol (1) and 4-(4-methoxyphenyl)-butane-2-O-β -D-glucopyranoside (2) on the basis of spectroscopic studies.

Effect of leaf extracts and steroidal saponin of Cestrum diurnum L. on spore germination and mycelial growth of some fungi
(2011) A. Sajeli Begum; Angella Patnaik; S. Ameer Basha; G. Raghavendra; S.K. Pandey; B.K. Sarma
The effect of methanolic extract, n-BuOH soluble fraction and a steroidal saponin diurnoside isolated from Cestrum diurnum leaves were tested against phytopathogenci fungi like, Alternaria solani, Chaetomium globosum, Cochliobolus heterostrophus, Curvularia lycopersici, Erisiphe pisi, Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici, Helminthosporium maydis, Macrophomina phaseolina, Phoma cajani, and Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. The methanolic extract, n-BuOH soluble fraction and a steroidal saponin diurnoside isolated from Cestrum diurnum leaves exhibited inhibition at 10,000 ppm against Curvularia lycopersici and Helminthosporium maydis. Similarly, under disc diffusion method mycelial growth of test fungi was found to be reduced. Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici and Macrophomina phaseolina were most sensitive at 10,000 ppm.

Hyoscyamal, a new tetrahydrofurano lignan from Hyoscyamus niger Linn.
(2009) A. Sajeli Begum; Shweta Verma; Mahendra Sahai; Kathrin Schneider; Roderich Sussmuth
In addition to the isolation and complete characterisation of a new lignan, hyoscyamal, three other compounds, balanophonin, pongamoside C and pongamoside D have been isolated from the seeds of Hyoscyamus niger. The structures of the compounds were settled on the basis of spectroscopic analysis. This is the first report on the isolation of these compounds from a solanaceous plant. © 2009 Taylor & Francis.

Two acyl sucroses from Petunia nyctaginiflora
(Elsevier Ltd, 2003) Ajay Pratap Singh; Ajit Kumar Singh; A. Sajeli Begum; Mahendra Sahai
Two new acyl sucroses were isolated from the epigeal parts of Petunia nyctaginiflora Juss. (Solanaceae). Their structures were determined to be 2, 3, 4-tri (5- methylhexanoyl)-α-D-glucopyranosyl-β-D-fructofuranoside (2) and 2, 3, 4-tri (6-methylheptanoyl)-α-D-glucopyranosyl-β-D-fructofuranoside (4) on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidence. © 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd.
