    A synoptic overview on boerhavia diffusa for its medicinal importance

    Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa) belongs to family Nyctaginaceae. It is also named as spreading HOG weed and used comprehensively in Ayurvedic system of medicine to cure diseases like Hridya rog (cardiac disorders), Pandu (anaemia), Vayasthapana/Rasayana (rejuvenator), Sotha (inflammation with swelling), Mutravahshortogat vikar (urinary tract disorders), Jwara (fever), yonirog (vaginal disorders), sutikarog (female disorder), kustharog (skin diseases) mrida bhakshana janya rog (disorders originated due to eating of clay), Basti karma (enema), balarog (disorders of children's), madhumeha (anti-diabetic) etc. Its synonyms, morphology, therapeutic potential is described in Ayurvediya Samhitas and Nighantus.     Obesity word comes from Latin language "Obesitas" indicates stout, fat or plump nature. The fatness in person more than their usually body requirement or having BMI more than 30 is known as obese person. An obese person is in severe condition that it can lead to further more diseases like hypertension, diabetes, myocardial infarction, peripheral vascular disease, stroke, heart attack, etc. The number of obese persons is increasing day by day in the world. In most of time obesity is caused due to consumption of excessive amount of food and moving deficient. It is due to intake of high energy diet, particularly fat and sugars, however we do not burn off the energy through determine and physical action, abundant of the surplus energy will be accumulated by the human body as fat. It has been detailed that in the event that we adjust the good nourishment and diminishing terrible nourishment such as fast food or junk food and adjusting good life style like waking up and running, gym workout makes a difference to decrease in the obesity. Other strategies are moreover accessible for treating obesity like Acupuncture, Hot spa, Medication but the lifestyle and diet are find to be key role player in treating obesity. In present study a survey questionnaire was planned and reaction was reported online in google form. The study was conducted with 212 people's responses gotten through web against 17 questions/query asked.     The ongoing Corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic has witnessed global political responses of unimaginable proportions. Many nations have implemented lockdowns that involve mandating citizens not to leave their residences for non-essential work. The Indian government has taken appropriate and commendable steps to curtail the community spread of COVID-19. While this may be extremely beneficial, this perspective discusses the other reasons why COVID-19 may have a lesser impact on India. We analyze the current pattern of SARS-CoV-2 transmission, testing, and mortality in India with an emphasis on the importance of mortality as a marker of the clinical relevance of COVID-19 disease. We also analyze the environmental and biological factors which may lessen the impact of COVID-19 in India. The importance of cross-immunity, innate immune responses, ACE polymorphism, and viral genetic mutations are discussed. © 2020 Chakrabarti S et al.     Formulation and evaluation of in vitro potential of punarnava ghan tablet against urolithiasis (Mutrakrichra)

    Background: Punarnava (B. diffusa Linn.) is usually prescribed in India as traditional medicine in the management of renal miseries including CaOx (calcium oxalate) urolithiasis (Mutrakrichra). It occurs commonly as a weed throughout India. Out of the forty species of this genus B. diffusa, B. chinensis, B. erecta, B. rependa, and B. rubicunda have Indian originates. Objective: To prepare Punarnava ghan tablet and evaluate its potential against Urolithiasis (Mutrakrichra) by in vitro technique. Materials and Methods: Punarnava kwath churna were prepared as per the methodology mentioned in Sharandhar samhita and ghan was prepared by evaporating the watery portion from prepared kwath. Prepared ghan was compressed into tablet, and for evaluating the quality of tablets standard parameters were determined. Results: Physicochemical and stability studies have not shown any remarkable variations with prepared tablet dosage form. In vitro studies showed 50 % of crystal inhibition at 650µg/ml. Conclusion: The prepared tablets of Punarnava ghan did not have remarkable variation during physicochemical and stability studies. The prepared tablets were able to so remarkable in vitro activity against Urolithiasis (Mutrakrichra). © RJPT All right reserved.

    Ayurvedic medication has tends to be regained the lost fame due to its preventive, curative nature, less side effects and holistic approach. This is largely because of quality drugs, clinical trials and evidence-based medicine. The large-scale production of medicine is done by Ayurvedic pharmacies. Quality production is the need from these Ayurvedic pharmacies. Standardization of raw drugs, finished drugs and process validation are of prime importance for each dosage form including Sandhan Kalpana. During the pharmaceutical procedure of Madya and Suktat Sandhan the fungal growth during pharmaceutical procedure is considered as major problems. As the Bhaishajya Kalpana, most developed branch of Ayurveda, deals with the preparation of different formulations from the raw material available in the nature. This conversion depends upon many factors like availability of the drug throughout the year, shelf life, good taste, pleasant smell, quick in action even in small doses. A conglomeration of source material by which shelf generated alcohol is prepared by keeping all together to convert it into a medicinal form called as Sandhan. Kutajarishta is a self-generated alcoholic preparation. It contains Holarrhena antidysenterica (Apocynaceae) as a chief ingredient.     Background: Tribulus species spread in the warm, temperate regions and prevalent in zone where hot summers and dry soil present. Tribulus species comprises of more than 25 species. Tribulus terrestris L. (Zygophyllaceae) consists of ripe, dried, whole fruit and an annual herb, rarely perennial that grows worldwide, particularly in the temperate regions. It is used as traditional medicines in India, China, South Africa, Bulgaria and many other countries. It is used for strengthening (balya), nutritive (brimhan), rejuvenator (rasayan), diuretic (mutral), anti-inflammatory (shothahara), renal calculi (ashmari) and urolithiasis (Mutrakrichra). Objective: To prepare Gokshur tablet and evaluate its potential against Urolithiasis (Mutrakrichra) by in vitro technique. Materials and Methods: Gokshur kvatha churna was prepared as per the methodology mentioned in Sharandhar samhita and ghan was prepared by evaporating the watery portion from prepared kvatha. Prepared ghan was compressed into tablet, and quality of tablets were evaluated. Results: Physicochemical and stability studies have not shown any remarkable variations with prepared tablet dosage form. In vitro studies showed 58.24% of crystal inhibition at 650µg/ml. Conclusion: The prepared tablets of Gokshur ghan did not have remarkable variation during physicochemical and stability studies.     In vitro anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities of Hinguleswara rasa-based herbomineral formulations

    Objective: The aims of the present investigation were to develop the herbal and/or herbomineral formulations of Hinguleswara rasa and to compare their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities, in vitro, with that of standard drug samples. Methods: This study was an interventional investigation in three samples: In the first sample, Hinguleswara rasa (HR1) was prepared as per methodology described in Rasatarangini using Shuddha Hingula (10 g), Shuddha Vatsanabha (10 g), and Pippali (10 g). In the second and third sample, respectively, Hinguleswara rasa was prepared by replacing Shuddha Hingula with Kajjali where Kajjali made from Hingulotha parada and Sodhita parada constitutes two varieties of Hinguleswara rasa, i.e. HR2 and HR3. In vitro antioxidant activity was studied using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, and the absorbance was recorded at 517 nm. For evaluating the in vitro anti-inflammatory studies, the inhibition of albumin denaturation technique was performed. Results: The results showed that the formulation of Hinguleswara rasa has shown dose-dependent activity which was observed in 100 µg concentration. HR1, HR2, and HR3 showed 36.11, 17.22, and 16.11% radical scavenging activity. Conclusion: It could be concluded that the changes made in the formulations did not affect the in vitro anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of the herbomineral formulations. © 2018, Innovare Academics Sciences Pvt.     In-vitro potential of sphatika tablet in the management of urolithiasis (mutrakrichra)

    The urinary system is mainly embedded of kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder, and urethra. Less water intake, electrolyte imbalance, some bacterial i.e. Escherichia coli & streptococci, viral and parasitic (Dirofilaria immitis) infections, autoimmune diseases might be act as causative factor which finally lead to the development of renal calculi. Sphatika (potash alum) is consider as mutrakrichraghan dravya which helps to break down the calculi and remove them through the urine. In the present work tablets of Sphatika were prepared by using direct compression technique. Crystal growth inhibition started at a concentration of 50 μg/ml but 650 μg/ml of drug showed maximum inhibition of 53.89%. The microbial load and presence of heavy metal in prepared Sphatika tablets was under the limits prescribed by TheAyurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India. © 2020 Plant Archives. All rights reserved.

    Of cross-immunity, herd immunity and country-specific plans: Experiences from COVID-19 in India

    India has witnessed a high number of COVID-19 cases, but mortality has been quite low, and most cases have been asymptomatic or mild. In early April, we had hypothesized a low COVID-19 mortality in India, based on the concept of cross-immunity. The presence of cross-immunity is presumed to lead to a milder course of disease and allow the time necessary for the development of adaptive immunity by the body to eliminate the virus. Evidence supporting our hypothesis has started showing up. Multiple studies have shown the generation of different T cell subsets and B cells responding to epitopes of viral proteins, especially of the spike protein, as a part of adaptive immunity against SARS-CoV-2. Cross-reactive T-cells have been demonstrated in patients who have been previously exposed to endemic coronaviruses. The interplay of cross-immunity and herd immunity is apparent in the COVID-19 scenario in India from the presence of a large number of asymptomatic or mild cases, a low infection-fatality ratio and a generally flat curve of percentage positivity of cases with respect to total testing, both in periods of strict lock-down and step-wise unlocking. It seems that cross-immunity resulted in faster generation of herd immunity. Although the initial restrictive measures such as lockdown prevented the rapid spread of the outbreak, further extension of such measures and overly expensive ones such as enhanced testing in India will result in a huge burden on the health economics as well as the society. Hence, we propose a restructuring of the health services and approach to COVID-19. The restructured health services should move away from indiscriminate testing, isolation and quarantine, and instead, the emphasis should be on improving facilities for testing and management of only critical COVID cases and the replacement of complete lockdowns by the selective isolation and quarantine of susceptible persons such as the aged and those with co-morbidities. In the process of describing India-specific plans, we emphasize why the development of country-specific plans for tackling epidemics is important, instead of adopting a “one policy fits all” approach.     Polyherbal formulation development and assessment of its potential against urolithiasis (Mutrakricchra) by in-vitro technique

    Background: Urolithiasis (Mutrakricchra) is an age-old disorder which has multi-factorial etiological as well as associated with re-occurrence. It is standout among the most troubling disorders related to urinary tract. Acharya Sushruta, a pioneer in the art of surgery, described the root causes and management of urolithiasis (Mutrakricchra). In present day restorative practice, a lot of the management/treatment choices are available which begins from the utilization of uresis-elevating specialist to dietary or nourishing enhancement consumption. Methodologies created by amalgamating the Ayurvedic principle/concept with current medicinal practice are a promising methodology and even effectively used for the management of urolithiasis (Mutrakricchra). Objective: To prepare a poly herbal formulation and evaluate its potential against Urolithiasis (Mutrakrichra) by In-Vitro technique. Materials and Methods: Trikantakadi kvatha was prepared as per the methodology described in Ayurveda Sar Samgraha. Prepared Trikantakadi kvatha was converted in ghan by evaporating the watery portion and Trikantakadi kvatha ghan vati (TKGV) were prepared by adding excipients in prepared ghan. Various parameters performed for physicochemical and phytochemical characterization of raw material (crude herbs) and prepared tablet dosage form. Results: Physicochemical and phytochemical investigations are not shown any remarkable variations with prepared tablet dosage forms when compared with Trikantakadi kvatha churn. Prepared tablet (TKGV) shows crystal inhibition with passage of time the percentage of crystal inhibition also varied accordingly in the drug concentration (1000 µg/ml) showed the maximum 76.25% crystal inhibition. Conclusion: The prepared dosages forms were not exhibited any remarkable variation during physicochemical, phytochemical and thin-layer chromatography studies. However, the Trikantakadi kvatha ghan vati (TKGV) developed dosage forms are more stable than kvatha (Decoction) and produces promising result against Urolithiasis (Mutrakrichra). © RJPT All right reserved.

Various parameters of apmarg kshar tablets were evaluated. Results: Physicochemical and stability studies have not shown any remarkable variations with prepared tablet dosage form. In-vitro studies shows that 82 % of crystal inhibition at 550 µg/ml. Conclusion: The prepared tablet dosage form of Apamarg Kshar does not have remarkable variation during physicochemical and stability studies. The developed dosage form produces promising result in vitro against Urolithiasis (Mutrakrichra). © RJPT All right reserved.
