RaoQualitative and quantitative studies of cutaneous bacterial flora were carried out in psoriatic patients and normal healthy controls. In psoriatics, the flora isolated from the affected skin was compared with the flora of adjacent normal skin. No significant qualitative difference was observed. The total number of bacteria isolated from the psoriatic plaque was significantly higher than on the adjacent normal skin. Flora of normal skin of psoriatics when compared with the skin of healthy controls did not reveal any qualitative difference, but a statistically significant difference was observed in the total bacterial counts. The nasal carriage rate of Staphylococcus aureus in psoriatics was higher than the control groups. © 1978 S. A preliminary report(1973) Gurmohan Singh; B.S.N. Reddy; Agya Singh KocharBeclomethasone dipropionate (Propaderm), a topical corticosteroid, was compared with hydrocortisone ointment in a double-blind study, to assess its effect on plasma cortisol level. Although potency-wise there was a vast difference between the two steroids (beclomethasone dipropionate being 5000 times as active as hydrocortisone in the McKenzie test), the changes produced in the plasma cortisol levels after the topical application of these two steroids at the end of two weeks were similar. Neither of these steroids produced any appreciable fall in the plasma cortisol level. © 1973.PublicationArticle Fixed drug eruption due to metronidazole(1977) R.P.C. Naik; Gurmohan SinghA case of fixed drug eruption due to metronidazole is presented. Such an eruption due to metronidazole has not been reported before. © 1977 S. KhuranaA study of glucose tolerance and insulin response to oral glucose was carried out in 56 consecutive histologically confirmed cases of lichen planus. 30.3% patients showed abnormal glucose tolerance. The pattern of insulin response was similar to that seen in type 11 diabetes. Insulin/glucose ratio showed the same relationship as seen in type II diabetes. These results reinforce the possibility of glucose intolerance in lichen planus patients. However, no correlation between glucose tolerance abnormalities and duration and distribution of lesions was observed. © 1987 S. Karger AG, Basel.PublicationArticle H2 Blockers in Chronic Urticaria(1984) Gurmohan SinghABSTRACT: Two hundred unselected patients with chronic idiopathic urticaria were treated with adequate doses of conventional antihistamines given at frequent intervals; 98.5% were completely freed of disease while on therapy. In three cases, the lesions subsided but did not clear completely. The addition of 800 mg of cimetidine in divided doses cleared the lesions in two cases, and in the third case the dose of H1 blocker was increased, which resulted in complete clearance of wheals and symptoms. Addition of H2 blockers play a role, but only in a very small percentage of patients with chronic idiopathic urticaria who do not completely respond to adequate doses of H1 blockers. There was a definite increase in incidence of pyodermas during the months of June, July and August. During this period atmospheric temperature and relative humidity were also fairly high. The hydration of stratum corneum, which in turn is influenced by heat and humidity, is responsible for excessive growth of bacteria and higher frequency of pyogenic skin infections. © 1973 S. DasTwenty eight patients with urticaria and 12 normal subjects were investigated. The patients with urticaria showed a significantly higher blood histamine level (0.285±0.004 μg/ml) and reacted more sharply to histamine iontophoresis (5.64±0.32 points) as compared to normal subjects (0.0825±0.01 μ/ml and 1.33±0.44 points respectively). In patients with urticaria there was a rough relationship between blood histamine level and degree of reaction to histamine iontophoresis. There was no significant change in the total leucocyte, differential leucocyte and absolute eosinophil counts in patients with urticaria except the absence of basophil cells. © 1967 S. Vasistha; Gurmohan SinghThe present work describes the results of treatment of 30 cases of neurodermatitis circumscripta by intralesional injections which were given by Dermo-Jet®. 15 cases were treated with triamcinolone acetonide (0.25 mg/cm2 of the skin) and the rest with aqua distillata every week for 8 weeks and were followed for another 4 weeks. The results of treatment were excellent in 66% of triamcinolone treated cases and 46% of aqua distillata treated cases. The difference in the response was statistically insignificant. So we conclude that aqua distillata might have worked as suggestion therapy in emotionally labile individuals. © 1978 S.
