PublicationArticle A new approach of management in insulin indicated diabetes(1979) J.K. Ojha; H.S. Bajpai; P.V. Sharma[No abstract available]PublicationArticle Alfa-feto protein in liver disorders in Indians(1977) R.M. Gupta; H.S. Bajpai; I.M. Gupta; C.V.S. RaoA total of 150 cases of liver disorders were screened for AFP by Ouchterlony double diffusion technique using monospecific anti-AFP serum. AFP was detected in 45% cases of hepatoma, 37.5% cases of Indian childhood cirrhosis and one case each of viral hepatitis, adult cirrhosis and secondary deposits in liver. Presence of AFP could not be correlated to the histopathologic appearance of tumor, age and sex of the patient or liver function tests either in hepatoma or in Indian childhood cirrhosis. AFP produced in various disorders appeared to be antigenically identical.PublicationArticle Association of hypomagnesemia with diabetic retinopathy(1989) A. Hatwal; A.S. Gujral; R.P.S. Bhatia; J.K. Agrawal; H.S. BajpaiAbstract Serum magnesium was measured in 100 patients of type II diabetes mellitus (40 without retinopathy, 40 with non‐proliferative and 20 with proliferative retinopathy) without malnutrition, hepatic or renal disease or albuminuria and in 100 age and sex matched controls. The serum magnesium levels were lower in diabetics than in controls (P< 0.001), and the levels in diabetics with non‐proliferative and proliferative retinopathy were significantly lower than in those without retinopathy (P< 0.001). These data seem to point towards an association between hypomagnesemia and diabetic retinopathy. 1989 Institution Acta Ophthalmologica ScandinavicaPublicationArticle Carbohydrate metabolism in cirrhosis liver in tropics(1979) J.P. Gupta; H.S. Bajpai; O.P. Rai; A.N. RaiThe abnormalities of carbohydrate metabolism in hepatic disorders have been reported by various workers from the continent, however, relatively few reports are available from India where the syndrome of chronic hepatic failure, cirrhosis of the liver, differs from that of the West. A project has been undertaken to study the carbohydrate abnormalities in hepatic disorders with special reference to cirrhosis of the liver along with observations on insulin, a key hormone in carbohydrate metabolism.PublicationArticle Effect of fenfluramine on serum T3, T4 and TSH levels in obesity(1992) S.S. Gupta; J.K. Agrawal; H.S. Bajpai; R.P. Bhatt; S.K. Singh[No abstract available]PublicationArticle Electrophysiological studies in diabetes mellitus(1974) I. Viswanath; H.S. Bajpai; B.C. KatiyarElectrophysiological evaluation of 40 diabetics, 20 with neuropathy and 20 without neuropathy revealed that motor nerve conduction velocities were delayed in diabetics, which was more pronounced in neuropathic patients. The peroneal nerve was involved more frequently than the median nerve. Sensory latency was prolonged and the amplitude of the evoked potentials was diminished in diabetics, particularly in those with neuropathy. Electromyographic abnormalities were commoner in diabetics with neuropathy than those without and were most frequently recorded from the extensor digitorum brevis muscle. There was no correlation between the duration, severity or control of diabetes and the electrophysiological abnormalities.PublicationArticle Epileptic fits in cysticercosis(1974) H.S. Bajpai; S.K. BhattacharyaOf the many sites of localisation of cysticerci, involvement of central nervous system is of most sinister significance because of the severity and polymorphism of epilepsy associated with it. A case is presented in whom taeniasis was symptomatic and culminated into systemic cysticercosis, with a dominant involvement of nervous system. The salient features of the case are discussed and relevant literature is reviewed.PublicationArticle Giardiasis in adults. Studies on jejunum and immunoglobulins(1979) J.P. Gupta; K.S. Nampoothiry; P.C. Sen; P.K. Shukla; S.N. Rao; G.C. Pant; H.S. BajpaiIn India, parasitic infestations form the major public health hazard and hookworm and Giardia lamblia form the major gut parasitic infestation. In thirty-four adult patients with proven excretion of Cr51 albumin, serum protein, serum immunoglobulin and biopsies of the jejunal mucosa were studied. The present study showed mild to moderate steatorrhoea in 27% and carbohydrate malabsorption in 31% of the cases. There was no excessive gut protein loss and serum proteins were normal in most of the cases. Jejunal mucosal abnormalities were observed in 40% of the cases. Serum IgA and IgG were significantly high.PublicationArticle Glucose tolerance test in leprosy(1990) R. Garg; J.K. Agrawal; H.S. Bajpai; G. Singh; P.K. Srivastava[No abstract available]PublicationArticle Growth hormone response to exercise, insulin hypoglycemia and clonidine: A comparative evaluation(1988) J.K. Agrawal; S.K. Singh; H.S. Bajpai; A. Hatwal; R.P. Singh; K.D. Kumar; A.K. Gupta; R.P. Bhatt[No abstract available]PublicationArticle Hormone profile in leprosy(1989) R. Garg; J.K. Agarwal; G. Singh; H.S. Bajpai[No abstract available]PublicationArticle IgM type II dysimmunoglobulinemia associated with chronic biliary tract disease. Report of a case with a brief review of literature(1972) R.M. Gupta; H.S. Bajpai; B. Dube; I.M. GuptaAppearance of Ig 'M' type II dysimmunoglobulinemia in a 51 yr old Hindu male following cholecystitis with cholelithiasis is recorded. Patient's serum was strongly positive for rheumatoid activity. The significance of the absence of clinical features of rheumatoid disease has been discussed. Anemia was contributed to both by bleeding episodes and hemolysis.PublicationArticle Intracerebral hemorrhage following scorpion bite(1990) M. Rai; R.C. Shukla; D.N. Varma; H.S. Bajpai; S.K. Gupta[No abstract available]PublicationArticle Left ventricular function in diabetics(1988) V.K. Dixit; M.C. Garg; J.K. Agrawal; H.S. Bajpai[No abstract available]PublicationArticle Microangiopathic changes in diabetes mellitus(1972) H.S. Bajpai; B. Dube; P.K. Sriwastava; G.N. Trivedi63 patients of maturity onset diabetes were studied for microangiopathic changes. Retinopathy of various grades was present in 50.5% of the cases and its incidence bore a relationship with the duration of diabetes. Dermal biopsies were studied in 31 of these patients and in 22 nondiabetic controls. The histological changes have been broadly discussed. 'Marked' and 'mild' angiopathic changes were seen in 13 and 61% of the cases of diabetes, respectively. The incidence of dermal angiopathy showed little direct correlation with that of retinopathy.PublicationArticle Nitrogen balance in non alcoholic cirrhosis of liver and the effect of anabolic hormones(1979) P.K. Shukla; H.S. Bajpai; S.K. Bhattacharya[No abstract available]PublicationArticle Oral clonidine: an effective growth hormone provocative test(1989) S.K. Singh; A. Hatwal; J.K. Agrawal; H.S. Bajpai[No abstract available]PublicationArticle Platelet defects in post-splenectomy thrombocythaemia(1971) B. Dube; H.S. Bajpai; S.C. Chawla; Y.N. GuptaA 43-year-old female, when subjected to splenectomy for obscure splenomegaly, gradually developed an increasing bleeding diathesis. About 20 months after splenectomy, her platelets numbered 1.3 millions/mm3 and showed complete absence of aggregation by ADP, epinephrine and nor epinephrine but a normal reaction towards collagen; the activity of platelet factor 3 was also poor. After an inadvertent overdosage of myelo-suppressive therapy she went into a thrombocytopenic phase but the platelets readily recovered to a normal number and function on steroid therapy. The patient has been maintaining a normal platelet status since December, 1969. © 1971 S. Karger AG, Basel.PublicationArticle Refractory cardiac arrhythmia due to hypomagnesemia(1975) R.B. Singh; V.P. Singh; H.S. BajpaiA case of ventricular bigeminy possibly due to magnesium deficiency is reported. Magnesium sulphate was successfully used for its management. Differential diagnosis of idiopathic cardiac arrhythmias should always include hypomagnesemia as one of the causes and magnesium should be replaced for its proper management.PublicationArticle Serum digoxin levels in elderly patients in relation to its toxicity(1976) R.B. Singh; V.P. Singh; S.K. Vaish; H.S. Bajpai; K.P. Dubey[No abstract available]
