PublicationArticle A clinico-pathological study of femoral heads in intracapsular fractures of the neck of the femur(1978) B.P. Varma; C.T. John; S.K. Gupta; I.M. GuptaThe present study reports the results of a clinico-pathological study of 26 femoral heads removed at operation, and was undertaken with a view to throw some light on the vascular status of the femoral heads in untreated cases of intracapsular fractures of the neck of the femur, and to estimate the true incidence of avascular necrosis in Indian subjects.PublicationArticle A pleomorphic cell sarcoma of lung with ball metastases in the heart(1973) M.L. Mehrotra; I.M. Gupta; G. Chopra; T.P. SrivastavaSome pleomorphic cell sarcomas in adults are rhabdomyosarcomas in which anaplasia has largely deprived the cells of striations. An autopsy in a female aged 60 yr presented such a picture, with widespread metastasis including tumor nodes in the cardiac chambers and on the visceral pericardium. A large grayish, necrotic tumor involving one of the major bronchi and adjoining parenchyma in the right lung was the source. The pleomorphic histology and the histogenesis is discussed. It is pointed out that the gross feature of masses of primary cardiac rhabdomyomas and rhabdomyosarcomas may be encountered also in metastatic tumors of the heart.PublicationArticle Adenocystic carcinoma of the uterine cervix: A clinicopathologic study(John Wiley and Sons Ltd, 1979) S. Gupta; I.M. Gupta; B. SanyalEight cases of adenocytic carcinoma of the uterine cervix, a rare histologic variant, are presented, with a brief review of 41 cases previously reported in the literature. They represent only 0.27% of 3524 cervical carcinomas that we encountered between 1962 and 1977. In all eight cases, there was early parametrial involvement, and the majority behaved aggressively. All eight patients were multiparas, and six of them were postmenopausal. Interestingly, including this series, 15 of 49 reported cases of this entity have been from India.PublicationArticle Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor(1977) S. Khanna; N.N. Khanna; A.B. Shrivastava; I.M. GuptaFive new cases of adenomatoid odontogenic tumors are documented, and the distinguishing features between adenomatoid odontogenic tumor and ameloblastoma are emphasized.PublicationArticle Ainhum in a female child involving a great toe(1967) V.N. Sehgal; S.M. Tuli; I.M. GuptaAn early case of ainhum involving the great toe in a female child is recorded and the relevant literature on the subject is briefly reviewed. © 1967 S. RaoA total of 150 cases of liver disorders were screened for AFP by Ouchterlony double diffusion technique using monospecific anti-AFP serum. AFP was detected in 45% cases of hepatoma, 37.5% cases of Indian childhood cirrhosis and one case each of viral hepatitis, adult cirrhosis and secondary deposits in liver. Presence of AFP could not be correlated to the histopathologic appearance of tumor, age and sex of the patient or liver function tests either in hepatoma or in Indian childhood cirrhosis. AFP produced in various disorders appeared to be antigenically identical.PublicationReview Antilymphocytic serum (A brief review of current concepts)(1979) R.M. Gupta; I.M. Khanna; Saroj GuptaTwo cases of carcinoma and renal tuberculosis occurring in the same kidney, a rare association, are reported. The tuberculous process was apparently overshadowed by the more obvious coexistent tumour, and detected as an incidental finding. A possible explanation for the extremely rare association of carcinoma and renal tuberculosis is discussed. Copyright © 1973, Wiley Blackwell. GuptaFive cases of cribriform adenocarcinoma involving the maxilla and the maxillary antrum are presented because of their comparative rarity. There is no specific sex predilection, and the 3rd and 5th decade of life is the most common period of involvement. Histologically, tumours show heterogeneity, but cribriform appearance is the common feature in all the cases, thus indicating cribriform adenocarcinoma as the chosen name for such tumours.PublicationArticle Delayed hypersensitivity reactions in hepatobiliary malignancy(1982) N. KhannaThe case is reported of a young man with extramedullary plasmacytoma presenting with massive cervical lymphadenopathy, pleural effusion and purplish papules on the chest wall. Histopathology of a lymph node from the neck revealed a plasmacytoma. Immunochemical studies on serum and pleural fluid showed M paraprotein of IgG type I. © 1974.PublicationArticle Fibrous dysplasia of the rib: a case report(1975) V.K. Jha; I.M. Gupta; M.L. VaidyaOf 86 cases a retrospective analysis was made for anatomic location, gross appearance, microscopic features, age and sex distribution and correlation between these respective findings. The tumor in 60% of the cases arose in the pyloric antrum and had an ulcerating appearance. Following Lauren's criteria a histologic division into 'intestinal' and 'diffuse' types was made in 95% of the cases. The 'intestinal' type was twice more frequent than the 'diffuse' type and the ratio (I/D ratio) appeared to increase with age and was higher in men than women. There was no definite correlation between the gross presentation and the microscopic types, except that linitis plastica was more often a 'diffuse' type than the 'intestinal' type. It would appear that there are grounds to separate gastric carcinoma into these 2 divisible microscopic types. A follow-up study is essential to establish their prognostic significance.PublicationArticle Germ cell tumors in Indian children(1988) Sushila Khanna; N.C. Arya; I.M. Gupta; Saroj Gupta; G.D. SinghalThe present paper is a retrospective study of one hundred and thirty five germ cell tumors seen in children at the University Hospital, Varanasi during a period of 21 years. These tumors constituted 7.5% of all solid tumors in the pediatric age group. Histologically 89 tumors (65.9%) were benign and 46 (34.1%) were malignant. Eighty percent of ovarian and all the testicular germ cell tumors were malignant. Thirty per cent of the tumors were located in the sacrococcyx. The ovaries were the next common site. There were 80 girls, 53 boys, and 2 cases in which the sex was not recorded. The predominance amongst girls was mainly due to the more frequent involvement of ovaries as compared to the testes. Twenty nine of the children were in the first year of life. The factors probably responsible for the higher incidence of malignancy, the differences in anatomic location, and the sex distribution in comparison to other reports have been examined and discussed. PantThe clinical features of the giant cell tumor of the sphenoid bone have been discussed and a case report has been added to the fourteen cases reported in the literature. Such cases may first report to an ophthalmologist, an otolaryngologist, a neurologist, or an internist. They should consider this condition in a patient who complains of headache, ocular symptoms such as diplopia, and diminution of vision progressing to complete blindness. The presence of multiple cranial nerve palsies involving II, III, IV, V, and VI nerves in various combinations and the sellar erosion in the lateral x-ray of the skull are quite suggestive of this tumor which should be confirmed by biopsy. The telecobalt therapy appears to give the best results. © 1975, SAGE Publications. Superficial spread of invasive carcinoma cervix over the endometrial surface is extremely rare and may follow radiation therapy (3, 5). Ferenczy et al. (1) have reported an instance of carcinoma in situ of ecto cervix spreading on the endometrial surface via the endo‐cervical canal. This paper reports another in situ lesion of the cervix showing superficial endometrial spread. 1979 Acta Obstet Gynecol Scand
