PublicationBook Chapter Contemporary precedents in pilgrimage tourism: A case study of shri kashi vishwanath temple corridor (SKVTC)(IGI Global, 2023) Sujay Vikram Singh; Atul Tripathi; Rashmi Jha; Rajeev RanjanThe work purports to present how the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Corridor (SKVTC) Project has propositioned its roadmap of 'Extension and Beautification' of a densely-populated pilgrim hotspot (Kashi Vishwanath Mandir Visistikaran- Saundrikaran Yojana). The scope of this study includes the rediscovered historical temples of the region that were saved from encroachment as a result of this Corridor. The present study fills the gap of a systematic study of the Corridor in terms of relevance in pilgrimage tourism, particularly in the context of the rediscovered historical temples, focusing on heritage sustainability to support the revival of Varanasi's tangible and intangible heritage. The findings of the study, which discussed the rapidly changing landscape of the most important site of the city, the Kashi Vishwanath temple, enabled local communities, tourism stakeholders, and academicians worldwide to encapsulate the diverse complexities of the SKVTC Project and its impact on pilgrimage activities and tourism. It focuses on the scope and challenges of heritage preservation and tourism infrastructure development, had been conducted through field visits and observations. During the investigation, different sources have been taken into account, including document review, personal interviews with the experts, local community stakeholders, and those who are/were directly or indirectly involved or affected by the SKVTC project. The study proposed unique way of using different but related set of factors of different natures in cultuaral heritage tourism, and hence offers an important empirical contribution to the literature of heritage management. © 2023, IGI Global. All rights reserved.PublicationArticle Situating Kaushambi: Exploring Its Role in the Dissemination of Buddhism and Shaping Buddhist Art in Ancient India(ARF India, 2025) Rashmi Jha; Atul TripathiThe paper examines primary sources, including both archaeological and textual evidence, as well as studies conducted to date on the nature of Kaushambi and its role in the development and dissemination of early Buddhist art. It also assesses the impact on the spread of Buddhist doctrine, religious practices, and cultural norms throughout the middle Ganga Valley and into north India. Careful consideration is given to trade routes and interconnected networks to enhance understanding of the spatial relationships between Kaushambi and other significant ancient Indian Buddhist sites. The study investigates the diversity of Buddhist art evidence found at the site, the challenges of interpreting it, and the interplay between sociopolitical factors, patronage, and art innovation, emphasizing their influence on the evolution of Buddhist art.
