PublicationArticle Petrology of the Pre-Cambrian Kolhan formations of Jhinkpani, Singhbhum district, Bihar(Springer-Verlag, 1964) A.K. Bhattacharya; B.K. ChatterjeePre-Cambrian Geology of an area of about 14 sq. miles has been investigated in this paper. The oldest rock is a very small patch of serpentinite, tentatively correlated with the huge ultrabasic body at Jojohatu, some 10 miles north. Granite and Newer dolerite are intrusive rocks of the area. Kolhan series, resting unconformably on Granite and showing facies variation from basal sandstone conglomerate to phyllitic shale through sandstone and impersistent limestone in a thickness of only a few tens of metres, is a shallow epicontinental deposit. Kolhan sandstone, rich in hematitic cement, is an argillaceous orthoquartzite practically devoid of feldspar and is very poor in heavy and accessory minerals. It is richly current bedded, immature, bimodal, fine grained, positively skewed and well sorted. Kolhan limestone is recrystallized micrite, its lower horizon is mostly high grade and contains pink calcite and quartz crystals in cavities. Its upper horizon is low grade, phyllitic and argillaceous and is partly metasomatic and exhibits contemporaneous deformation structures like hassock bedding and slickenside (slickolites?). Kolhan phyllitic shale exhibits effects of Singhbhum orogeny in development of cleavage and crumpling of foliation. Dirty green vug quartz contains abundant oriented microscopic chlorite inclusions. Non-metallic and metallic mineralization in Kolhans is represented by limestones, and local hematite-molybdenite and iron-rich manganese ore respectively. © 1964 Ferdinand Enke Verlag Stuttgart.PublicationArticle Change of platinum resistance by hydrogen(1964) R.J. GalagaliThe change of electrical resistance of platinum in contact with neutral and electrically excited hydrogen, air and argon was studied. Even a trace of hydrogen was sufficient to cool the glowing wire. Influence of ageing and gas pressure showed a marked decrease in the wire resistance. Air and argon showed no appreciable effect on the wire resistance even at higher temperatures.PublicationArticle The synthesis of a new mesoionic aromatic system and the mechanism of dakin - west reaction(1964) Gurbakhsh Singh; Sujan Singh[No abstract available]PublicationArticle Unsteady free-convection laminar flow past a porous wall with time-dependent suction(1964) Krishna Lal[No abstract available]PublicationArticle Hypophysectomy in Indian garden lizard, Calotes versicolor(Springer-Verlag, 1964) S.K. SaxenaInjections of 2.5 or 5.0 mg of prolactin induced postnuptial-like regression of the testes of the male weaverbird (Ploceus philippinus) at the height of the breeding season but had no effect on regenerating feathers, which are of the cock type during the breeding season. These seemingly contradictory results can be understood on the assumption that prolactin suppresses the release of follicle-stimulating hormone but does not inhibit the output of luteinizing hormone. © 1964.PublicationArticle Determination of ascorbic acid by iodate using iodine cyanide end point; indirect determination of vanadium, and colorimetric determination of ascorbic acid(Springer-Verlag, 1964) C.N. Murty; M.G. BapatTwo methods for the determination of ascorbic acid are described. The first employs titration with iodate in presence of cyanide and hydrochloric acid and starch indicator with two end points, corresponding to the formation of iodine after reduction to iodide and conversion of iodine to iodine cyanide respectively. The titration is applied to the indirect determination of vanadium(V). In the second method ascorbic acid is treated with excess ferric solution and the ferrous iron formed is determined colorimetrically by ortho-phenanthroline. © 1964 Springer-Verlag.PublicationArticle Parasitic fungi from north India(Kluwer Academic Publishers, 1964) M.S. MaheshThe Debye‐Waller exponents for aluminium, silver and sodium have been calculated from de Launay's electron gas model. A sampling technique has been used, as in an earlier paper of Mahesh and Dayal. These is agreement between theoretical and experimental values up to 600 °K in the case of aluminium and silver and up to 200 °K for sodium. Copyright © 1964 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. MohantyThe potentiometric determination of thorium as oxalate yields values with a constant error and therefore can be employed for analysis with a suitable correction. © 1964 Springer-Verlag.PublicationArticle Chromosome numbers in some Indian species of Nitella(Springer-Verlag, 1964) Y.S.R.K. THAPLIYAL; P.D. TEWARYEffect of fifteen hours of daylength has boon studied in two species of local finches. Increase daylength in baya weaver (Ploceus philippinus) induces gonad recrudescence practically immediately but not in the avadavat (Estrilda amandava) and the gonads in this species continue to regress in size. In Estrilda amandava there is a post nuptial period of sexual negativity which seems to operate both at the gonadal and hypophysial levels. 1964 The Zoological Society of LondonPublicationArticle Parasitic fungi from north India - II(Kluwer Academic Publishers, 1964) M.S. Pavgi; H.P. Upadhyay[No abstract available]PublicationArticle The Equation of State of Sodium Fluoride(1964) R.G. Deo; B. DayalThe equation of state of Sodium Fluoride is studied by the method of Verma and Dayal. Theoretical values of thermal expansion are compared with the experimentally measured values and a satisfactory agreement is found upto 530 °K. The theoretical values increase progressively above this temperature. It seems that the parameter ∂ in the exponential interaction term is a function of interatomic distance.
