PublicationArticle Potential-energy curves for O2+, N2+, and CO+(1966) Ran B. Singh; D.K. RaiExperimental potential energy curves have been constructed for the molecules O2+, N2+, and CO+ by the Rydberg-Klein-Rees-Vanderslice method. Perturbations in the A2Π state of CO+ have been predicted due to the X 2Σ+ state and the observed perturbations in the case of N2+ have also been discussed. © 1966.PublicationArticle Somatic chromosomes of the common palm civet, Paradoxurus hermaphroditus (Viverridae - carnivora)(Birkhäuser-Verlag, 1966) S.P. DayalA tensor force model including up to sixth‐neighbour interactions is developed for zinc. The model involves a total of twenty‐three force constants of which eighteen are determined from certain room temperature experimental elastic constants. The condition for crystal equilibrium which interrelates the force constants is also satisfied, so that the model is elastically consistent. The other five constants are not determined. The theoretical dispersion curves involving only the eighteen force constants determined are computed and compared with the experimental neutron scattering results of Borgonovi et al. Good agreement is found. The theoretical results of De Wames et al. are also discussed. Copyright © 1966 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The force constants have been adjusted by a least squares method. The force constants show certain regularities. The covalent character of the metal fluoride, metal chloride and metal bromide bonds has been discussed. © 1966.PublicationArticle Chemical investigations of Alangium lamarckii II. DayalThe electron gas model, described by the authors in an earlier paper, is extended to the three transition metals titanium, zirconium, and hafnium. The theoretic θ − T curves agree to within 3 to 5% with experimental values. Copyright © 1966 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. DayalThe phonon spectra of solidified Argon and Krypton have been calculated on the basis of the Born‐Karman theory using the interatomic potential ϕ(r) = ‐Ar−6 + AB × exp (‐r/Q), and taking into account the zero‐point energy and interactions of the four nearest neighbours. The evaluation of the parameters A, B, and Q requires a knowledge of the vibration spectrum of the crystal which is itself a function of these constants. A method of iteration is therefore employed to evaluate the potential parameters, after estimating the frequency‐dependent terms using the Debye theory of specific heats. The static lattice energy is obtained by a method of successive approximations. The specific heats and (θ,T) curves show a fair agreement with the experimental results. DayalKrebs's model for the lattice dynamics of cubic metals has been extended by including the third-nearest-neighbor ionic interactions. The cases of three transition metals, viz., α-iron, molybdenum and tungsten, are discussed in this paper. The force constants appearing in the secular equations for the lattice frequencies are estimated from experimental elastic constants and one observed vibration frequency. The phonon dispersion curves for the three major symmetry directions show a good agreement with the results for neutron scattering. The frequency distributions are computed. The theoretical specific heats and Debye parameters also exhibit a good agreement with the experimental data. © 1966 The American Physical Society.PublicationArticle Parasitic fungi from North India-VI(Kluwer Academic Publishers, 1966) M.S. MurtyA polarographic determination of Zinc can be successfully performed in 1 M sodium formate solution (pH 7.0) as supporting electrolyte using 0.005% of gelatin as maximum suppressor. Well defined waves are obtained for 1-6 mM of zinc and various anions do not cause any interference. The method is also suitable for the determination of zinc and mangenese in presence of each other. © 1966 Springer-Verlag.PublicationArticle Iron alum as a mordant in cytology of Uredinales(Birkhäuser-Verlag, 1966) U.P. AnantharamanFormulae for the Scherrer constant Kβ, the variance Scherrer constant Kω and the taper parameter Lω for crystals having the external shapes of a triangular prism, a square prism, a hexagonal prism and a cylinder have been obtained in terms of the reflection indices and proportionality factors, viz., the ratio of the height of the crystal to the square root of its basal area and the ratio of the two lattice constants of the unit cell. The numerical values of Kβ, Kω and Lω have also been computed for direct application in particular cases. © 1966 Indian Academy of Sciences.PublicationArticle Amine Complexes of Boron Trichloride(1966) Sarju Prasad; Narayani Prasad SinghThe amine derivatives of boron trichloride have been prepared by the action of BCl3 on aromatic primary mono‐ and diamines in benzene medium under anhydrous conditions, their properties studied and structures discussed. Manometric studies of the oxygen consumption of the liver homogenate of the scorpion with glucose, fructose, mannose, sucrose, pyruvate, malate and succinate as substrates and the inhibitory effects of iodoacetic acid, sodium fluoride and sodium malonate on oxygen consumption indicated the presence of the glycolytic pathway and the Krebs cycle in the liver. 2. 2. Spectrophotometric studies of the supernatant fraction of the liver homogenate showed that the activity of the enzyme, malic dehydrogenase, is low in the liver. © 1966.PublicationArticle PublicationArticle Effect of thermal neutron irradiation on mitosis(Springer-Verlag, 1966) C.U.
