The emission spectra of 2-methyl-, 2,5-dimethyl-, 2,5-dichloro-, and 2,6-dichloro-p-benzoquinone in the vapor state have been reported. The spectra of p-quinones were excited by transformer discharge in the presence of flowing vapor of benzene and lay in the region 5100-6850 Å. The bands at 5227, 5163, 5183, and 5392 Å have been identified as the 0-0 bands, respectively. The emissions involve a triplet-singlet (n-Π*) transition in all cases, in the vapor state. © 1965.
