Abstract

The present paper deals with the evaluation of the ideal glass transition temperature from a knowledge of the ratio of the heat capacity and entropy differences between the liquid and solid phases at the equilibrium melting temperature of a material. This ratio is known to be a measure of the rate of entropy loss with temperature for the liquid phase. It has been shown that a correlation exists between the critical cooling rate for glass formation and the magnitude of the ratio of the heat capacity and the entropy of fusion.
