Abstract
A strain of Bacillus cereus was isolated from a detergent-polluted pond. This strain showed growth with exceedingly high concentration of both anionic and non-ionic detergents. Detergent such as SDS was rapidly taken up by the cells and degraded to dodecan-1-ol by the enzyme alkylsulphatase.
