Abstract

SDS-PAGE on male haemolymph plasma from the three bugs, Lethocerus indicus, Ranatra filiformis and Antilochus coqueberti representing the two groups of Heteroptera, was carried out in order to determine the chemical nature of the prosthetic groups attached to the haemolymph proteins by using several chemical tests. These chemical characterizations indicate that the haemolymph contains a complex of glycoproteins, lipoproteins and ribonucleoproteins of varying electrophoretic patterns in the two groups. Most of the plasma proteins show glycosylation, and some of them further show attachment with the lipid and RNA molecules. © 1989.
