In present communication, a four layer metal clad waveguide sensor having metamaterial as a film layer is studied, with and without adlayer. Sensitivity of proposed sensor is analyzed in reflection mode using Fresenal's relation. The obtained results are compared with the result of a metal clad waveguide sensor having dielectric as film layer in order to see the effect of unnatural properties of metamaterial in sensing application. Proposed sensor shows sharper reflectance peaks and measurable shift in peak position due to change in cover layer refractive indices for larger range of cover layer refractive indices values. Hence, proposed sensor is better for refractometry application. Copyright © 2015 American Scientific Publishers.
