PublicationArticle A pleomorphic cell sarcoma of lung with ball metastases in the heart(1973) M.L. Mehrotra; I.M. Gupta; G. Chopra; T.P. SrivastavaSome pleomorphic cell sarcomas in adults are rhabdomyosarcomas in which anaplasia has largely deprived the cells of striations. An autopsy in a female aged 60 yr presented such a picture, with widespread metastasis including tumor nodes in the cardiac chambers and on the visceral pericardium. A large grayish, necrotic tumor involving one of the major bronchi and adjoining parenchyma in the right lung was the source. The pleomorphic histology and the histogenesis is discussed. It is pointed out that the gross feature of masses of primary cardiac rhabdomyomas and rhabdomyosarcomas may be encountered also in metastatic tumors of the heart.PublicationArticle An evaluation of percutaneous trephine biopsy in the diagnosis of lung diseases(1974) D.C. Roy; M.L. MehrotraIn this series of 80 consecutive lung biopsies using the trephine, definitive diagnosis was obtained in 67 (84%) of the cases, with a variety of diffuse and localized lung lesions. No serious complications occurred in this series; there was no instance of death, air embolism or infection. This procedure was found to have several advantages, that it is painless, quick and can be performed at the bedside. It can be repeated if and when necessary and is inexpensive compared with open biopsy.PublicationArticle PublicationArticle Carcinoma Associated with Renal Tuberculosis: A Report of Two Cases, with a Brief Review of the Literature(1973) M.L. Mehrotra; I.M. Gupta; N.N. Khanna; Saroj GuptaTwo cases of carcinoma and renal tuberculosis occurring in the same kidney, a rare association, are reported. The tuberculous process was apparently overshadowed by the more obvious coexistent tumour, and detected as an incidental finding. A possible explanation for the extremely rare association of carcinoma and renal tuberculosis is discussed. Copyright © 1973, Wiley Blackwell. MehrotraA case of generalized neurofibromatosis with multiple cranial lesions in the mandible and maxilla and the frontal, sphenoid and temporal bones is reported.PublicationArticle Double cancer. (Epidermoid carcinoma with chronic myeloid leukaemia)(1973) G.C. Pant; M.L. MehrotraThe association of chronic myeloid leukemia with another primary neoplasm is rare when compared with chronic lymphatic leukemia. Two cases, one having epidermoid carcinoma of the anus and another having epidermoid carcinoma of the cervix concurrently with chronic myeloid leukemia, are reported. Neither of them had a past history of radiation. Both cases were treated by radiation and Myleran. A short review of literature is discussed.PublicationArticle Ewing's sarcoma of lumbar spine: a case report(1974) B.K. Kaul; G.D. Singhal; M.L. Mehrotra[No abstract available]PublicationArticle Fibrous dysplasia of the rib: a case report(1975) V.K. Jha; I.M. Gupta; M.L. Mehrotra; A. MehrotraNine patients with fulminating amebic colitis who were treated surgically from 1975 to 1982 are presented. Only those who had bowel resections with exteriorization of the cut ends survived. The pertinent literature is reviewed briefly. © 1986 American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.PublicationArticle Gastric carcinoma: An entity, unitary or divisible(1976) M.L. Mehrotra; I.M. Gupta; S. Gupta; M.P. VaidyaOf 86 cases a retrospective analysis was made for anatomic location, gross appearance, microscopic features, age and sex distribution and correlation between these respective findings. The tumor in 60% of the cases arose in the pyloric antrum and had an ulcerating appearance. Following Lauren's criteria a histologic division into 'intestinal' and 'diffuse' types was made in 95% of the cases. The 'intestinal' type was twice more frequent than the 'diffuse' type and the ratio (I/D ratio) appeared to increase with age and was higher in men than women. There was no definite correlation between the gross presentation and the microscopic types, except that linitis plastica was more often a 'diffuse' type than the 'intestinal' type. It would appear that there are grounds to separate gastric carcinoma into these 2 divisible microscopic types. A follow-up study is essential to establish their prognostic significance.PublicationArticle Indian childhood cirrhosis of the liver: a morphologic evaluation(1975) M.L. Mehrotra; S. Gupta; I.M. Gupta; V. Bhargava; G.P. KatiyarIndian childhood cirrhosis of the liver is a major cause of morbidity and mortality of children living in the Indian sub continent. This paper deals with the morphologic changes in various stages of the disease process. Ballooning and feathery degeneration of hepatocytes, complete absence of fatty change, frequent occurrence of intracytoplasmic hyaline bodies, dissection of pseudolobules by fibrous septa and fibrosis around single cells were notable features. A few cases also showed giant cell transformation and a pseudo adenomatous arrangement of hepatocytes. The interpretation of the morphologic changes is discussed and the probability of a toxic etiology suggested.PublicationArticle Juvenile epithelial malignancy of head and neck(1977) P.L. Bhatia; O.P. Gupta; H.C. Samant; M.L. MehrotraChildren aged 15 yr or less usually suffer from malignant mesenchymal neoplasms. Observations on 4 rare cases of juvenile carcinomas (larynx, maxillary antrum, upper lip, and parotid) are reported. No particular etiologic factor could be found in these cases. Age, as such, had no effect on the clinical presentation of the disease, its management or prognosis.PublicationArticle Leukemic manifestations in the upper respiratory tract(1978) P.L. Bhatia; C. Samant; M.K. Hussain; V.P. Singh; M.L. MehrotraMany leukemic patients have chief complaints pertaining to the nose, throat, and larynx; bleeding from the gums, sore throat, and discomfort in the larynx are the most common symptoms.PublicationArticle Lung biopsy by manually operated high speed air drill. (Preliminary communication)(1973) D.C. Roy; M.L. Mehrotra; K. KotilingamThirty percutaneous trephine lung biopsies were performed on 27 patients, (9 with localised peripheral lung lesions and 18 with diffuse parenchymal disease) aged between 12 and 62 yr. A definitive histopathologic diagnosis was achieved in 90% of the patients. The most common complications were pneumothorax (20%) and hemoptysis (16.6%). There was no instance of mortality through air embolism. It is concluded that percutaneous trephine lung biopsy with high speed air drill is safe and in certain cases may be an acceptable alternative to open lung biopsy without reducing the chances of diagnosis.PublicationArticle Meig's syndrome associated with haemorrhagic pleural fluid and papillary adeno-carcinoma of ovary(1975) S.K. Gupta; O.P. Sharma; S.S. Ambasta; M.L. Mehrotra[No abstract available]PublicationArticle Oesophageal carcinoma in India. Some epidemiologic and morphologic considerations(1977) M.L. Mehrotra; H. Lal; G.C. Pant; M.P. Vaidya; I.M. GuptaOesophageal carcinoma constituted 2.39% of all malignancies, and 17.11% of gastrointestinal tract malignancies, over a period of 12 years. The highest frequency occurred in the sixth decade. The male:female ratio was 2.2:1, this ratio tended to diminish with age. Out of 202 cases the middle third of the oesophagus was involved in 104, the lower third in 72 and the upper third in 26 cases. Although squamous cell carcinoma was by far the most frequent histologic type (193 cases), genuine primary oesophageal adenocarcinoma did occur in 3, and the tumour was completely anaplastic in the remaining 6 cases. The prognostic bearing of certain morphologic features has been discussed. Oesophageal carcinoma is one of the most frequent malignancies of the gastrointestinal tract and a common tumour in elderly Indian men and women.PublicationArticle Penile Amoebiasis: an Unusual Presentation(1975) Saroj Gupta; M.L.
