Fresh water chytrids from Varanasi (India). III. Some new records
(Kluwer Academic Publishers, 1981) R. Dayal; Usha Kirin
Rhizidium varians, R. elongatum, Rhizidium sp. and Rhizophydium apiculatum are reported for the first time from India. Morphological variation in the species are noted, along with taxonomic problems in identification of some of these forms. Their description and cultural characteristics are being discussed. © 1980 Dr. W. Junk b.v. Publishers.

Fresh water chytrids from varanasi (India). IV. Some polycentric forms
(Kluwer Academic Publishers, 1980) R. Dayal; Usha Kiran
In this paper five polycentric chytrids have been described, Nowakowskiella elegans, N. profusa, Polychytrium sp., Catenaria anguillulae and Hyphochytrium catenoides. Of the five species described, N. profusa and Polychytrium sp. are new records from India. © 1980 Dr. W. Junk b.v. Publishers.

Interaction of nematodes with nematophagus fungi: induction of trap formation, attraction and detection of attractants
    (1987) Geeta Saxena; R. Dayal; K.G. Mukerji
Induction of trap formation in Arthrobotrys oligospora, A. conoides and Monacrosporium cystosporum was studied during a 24 h period in the presence of the free-living nematodes Panagrellus redivivus on various nutrient media. A definite pattern of trap formation was observed in these fungi. Low nutrient mineral salt medium had the most pronounced effect on trap formation. Attraction and repulsion of P. redivivus towards these three nematophagous and three non-nematophagous fungi was studied. The nematodes were attracted towards three nematophagous and one non-nematophagous fungi, the other two repelled them. Attractants of the nematophagous fungi were determined by thin-layer chromatography. In the case of A. oligospora and M. cystosporum, four spots were traced, whereas in A. conoides, five spots were detected. © 1987.

    Nutritional studies on nematode-trapping fungi
    (Springer Netherlands, 1989) G. Saxena; R. Dayal; K.G. Mukerji
Utilization of 18 carbon and nitrogen sources and 9 vitamins by three network forming fungi Arthrobotrys oligospora, A. conoides and Monacrosporium cystosporum was studied. They were able to utilize almost all the carbon and nitrogen sources except few and showed variation in their efficiency of utilization. For good growth the fungi required thiamin, biotin and partially 4-aminobenzoic acid. © 1989 Academia, Publishing House of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences.

Studies in the life cycle of Allomyces javanicus Kniep
(Kluwer Academic Publishers, 1971) Thakur Ji; R. Dayal
The life cycle of Allomyces javanicus was studied with the hanging drop method under laboratory conditions. The isolate has a life cyrle similar to that already described in A. javanicus and A. arbuscula. Planonts from resistant sporangia do not germinate directly to produce gametophytic plants, but on the contrary, the latter germinate to produce plants like their immediate parents. Female and male gametes growing in the gametangia of relatively young sexual mycelia develop into asexual mycelia after conjugation, but some of the female gametes after germination develop into asexual mycelia without conjugation. © 1971 Dr. W. Junk Publishers.
