Abstract
The aim of present study was to evaluate serum levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and lipoprotein transport cholesterol in bronchial asthma patients. The serum levels of total cholesterol and triacylglycerol were also determined in order to assess the lipid status of these patients. It was observed that serum contents of total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol and MDA were significantly higher in both the group of patients (younger and elderly group) suffering from bronchial asthma. Moreover serum triacylglycerol, very low density lipoprotein cholesterol and high density lipoprotein cholesterol did not show any significant change as compared to control values. However the TC/HDL-C and LDL-C/HDL-C ratios were significantly higher in all these patients. Altered cholesterol ratios and serum MDA level in these patients have been related to increased risk of complications.
