Cyanobacteria are photosynthetic prokaryotes, which possess mainly chlorophyll-a. Cyanobacteria are approximated to have occurred as a long ago as 2,600 to 3,500 millions years based on fossil records, organic biomarkers and genomic sequence analysis. They are known to inhabit a range of habitats, including plant surfaces but this has not been adequately explored for improving their biofertilizing potenctial in agriculture and the rhizosphere is a relatively unexplored frontier.en_US
