Item Design and development of some new cost-effective optical sensors for the detection of Zn2+, Cd2+ and Hg2+(Department of Chemistry, 2015-07-30) Upadhyay, K.KTo further validate the feasibility of receptor 4 for the detection of Al3+ in vivo, confocal microscope images of HeLa cells incubated with receptor 4 were obtained. As shown in Figure 40, no fluorescence was observed in HeLa cells upon their incubation with 40 μg mL-1 of receptor 4 for 30 minutes. The cells were washed five times with PBS (Phosphate Buffered Saline) buffer solution and 250 μM Al3+ was added. The same is well within the range shown to elicit physiological responses (10-500 μM). After further incubation for 5 minutes, an enhancement of the fluorescence in the cells was observed.Item Synthesis of novel zwitterionic polymers and study of their optoelectronic, electrochemical characteristics and application for sensor development(Department of Chemistry, MMV, 2015-12-31) Singh, MeenakshiAlthough the project was sanctioned on 1st of August, 2012, I received the official letter in third week of August only. So official work could be started in September only. On getting the grant, the necessary chemicals and glass wares were ordered and purchased.Item Transition metal complexes with Heterocyclic Schiff bases: synthesis, characterization and applications(Department of Chemistry, 2017-01-31) Singh, Vinod PrasadThe aim of this work is to explore the ligational behavior of some heterocyclic Schiff bases derived from acylhydrazine system towards some transition metal ions and to arrive at the probable structures of the coordination complexes on the basis of spectroscopic studies. By carefully selecting the organic ligand one also aims to tune the physical properties and thus realizes various applications such as catalysis, electrical conductivity, luminescence, chemo sensing and anticorrosion behavior. Schiff bases are one of the most important and widely explored organic species. Their low-cost, synthetic ease and tremendous applications, inspired us to work on Schiff bases as chemical probes for selective detection of toxic metal ions.Item Studies on haemolymph and its modulation by entomopathogenic fungi in an insect pest, Dysdercus koenigii (Heteropteran:Pyrrhocoridae)(Department of Zoology, 2018) Kumar, DineshAn attractive alternative method to chemical pesticides is the microbial biocontrol (MBCAs) agents. They are the natural enemies devastating the pest population with no hazardous effects on human health and the environment too. Entomopathogenic fungi have an important position among all the biocontrol agents because of its route of pathogenicity, broad host range and its ability to control both sap-sucking pests such as mosquitoes and aphids as well as pests with chewing mouthparts, yet they only cover a small percentage of the total insecticide market. Improvements are needed to fulfill the requirements for high market share. Entomopathogenic fungi differ from other microorganisms in their infection process: they directly breach the cuticle to enter the insect hemocoel, while other microorganisms enter by ingestion through the mouth and then cause disease.Item Ion exchange voltammetry as a versatile technique for selective determination of target analytes using novel organicploymers and functionalized clay materials(Department of Chemistry, 2018) Ganesan, VA voltammetric sensor for both the individual and the simultaneous determination of ascorbic acid (AA), uric acid (UA) and folic acid (FA) is described. It is based on a glassy carbon electrode (GC) that was modified with bentonite (Bt) that was first functionalized with cysteine (Cys) to which gold nanoparticles were linked. The resulting material (referred to as Au-Cys-Bt) and the other materials were characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), energy dispersive X-ray analysis and electrochemical methods. The XRD peak positions of bentonite and Cys-functionalized bentonite prove the incorporation of Cys into bentonite. The XPS spectrum of Au-Cys-Bt confirms the interaction of gold nanoparticles with the thiol group of Cys. The modified GC displays high electrocatalytic activity for the oxidation of AA, UA and FA, typically at 0.19, 0.41, and 0.73 V (vs. SCE), respectively. Differential pulse voltammetric data show a linear response that covers the 1 μM to 25 mM concentration range for AA, the 1 to 200 μM concentration range for UA, and two linear ranges for FA, one from 5 to 100 μM and one from 100 μM to 1.5 mM. The sensor was applied to the determination of AA, UA and FA in (spiked) multi-vitamin syrup, bird serum and milk samples.Item Expression pattern and physiological and metabolic actions of oxytocin in the testis of mice(Major Research Project, 2018-07-30) Krishna, AmitabhOxytocin (OT) is normally a neurohormone stored and secreted from posterior pituitary. It has been postulated to facilitate reproduction at several levels and is traditionally considered as a female hormone. Within male reproductive tract, the presence of OT was demonstrated in the testes, epididymis and prostrate. Thus the aim of this study was to elucidate the role of OT in spermatogenic and steroidogenic activities in the testes of mice.
